From “The Mermaid Theory” episode of How I Met Your Mother comes…women dressed in manatee costumes! Very chunky, sort of scary manatee costumes. It doesn’t look like the episode is on CBS’s website anymore, but I took some screenshots for your viewing enjoyment.
As for what the Mermaid Theory is, it’s something about how a female friend/colleague may start as a “manatee” in a male (or female) companion’s eyes, thus giving no possibility of anything beyond a platonic relationship, but given enough time the manatee will turn into AN ENTICING MERMAID WHO SHALL DESTROY PLATONIC RELATIONSHIPS blah blah.
