Illustrating your love with hearts is a tad, mm, not original at all. But using a manatee? That is pretty damn special. Here’s some manatee loving in poster form from @pinkstapler to her manatee-loving brother John, who’s on Army deployment in Baghdad.

Then you should support illustrator / food lover / manatee lover Lucy Knisley, who is raising money for a trip to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and draw an awesome comic book about it. She posted on her Livejournal that if she raises $5,000 before the fundraiser ends in January she’ll throw in an extra comic about swimming with manatees. As a Harry Potter lover and manatee lover, this interests me muchly.

I’m pretty sure she’ll hit the $5,000 mark by then, but y’all should get in on the potential manatee comic action and help her out. If you feel like. You may be wondering why you should give money to someone you don’t know so she can embark on the arduous task of visiting Universal Studios and swimming with manatees, and my answer is, “BECAUSE SHE WILL DRAW AND WRITE SOME AWESOME COMICS AND I WANT TO READ THEM.” 

* I got Lucy to draw this picture at last year’s MoCCA Festival. Some friends have pointed out to me that it looks like a manatee orgy. What the fugnut, guys—it’s just a bunch of happy manatees having non-orgy fun. …I think. LEAVE IT AT THAT.

The mascot for the upcoming Beer Snob Bicycle Pub Crawl in Miami is a booze-loving manatee. T-shirts are available until September 13 for $12 each, to be picked up at the event on the 18th.

Flying Bison are creatures from Avatar that are a hybrid between a bison and a manatee. So think of them as…fuzzy six-legged flying manatees sort of.

Whatever, they’re cute. I’ve only watched a handful of Avatar episodes, and that was about three years ago. It’s definitely time for me to watch more…so I can see the flying bison.
